Who Didn't See It Coming? [29 Sep 2003|06:24am]

redorangelegend
Dylan and I have decided that we're starting a new band. After countless seconds of brainstorming, we've decided to name the band, DEFROST.

NOTE: This has nothing to do with the previous DEFROST.

way to go on the last show, guys! lots of old-fashioned ad-libbed fun in a slightly-more-technically-advanced environment. toxic loincloth and sci-fi scorpio's sets were great, and bigassfries's debut performance was impressive as well. hoorah.

Hey I'm just seeing who would be interested in playing in a concert

Bringing out the Dead, A DEFROST reunion
Current line up is Possibly Toxic LoinCloth, Fair Dinkum, Big Ass Fries, Sci- Fi Scorpio and hopefully DEFROST itself. If any bands want to add themselves to the line up drop me a line
Ps:this was cole's idea,(accutually it was for a post-defrost concert with a possible reunion) I'm just being optimistic and posting it

for the record, fair dinkum and angler fish 7th circle love monster pizza party did surprisingly well at today's BotB gigs.

participants revealed-unveiled-awakened a zest for performing, or maybe blinded someone with a flying tootsie roll. or maybe both.

well, 'twas fun playing the sit-down bass and all, but damn it, ELV¡S H CHAOS will have her day. hell, we'll all have our days. i personally invite any and all D_ sideprojects to storm the junefest stage if we make it (janina is going to beat my ass, but who cares).

in other news, candy sale back on this week. hey grace, you serious about joining the sales bandwagon? see me sometime tomorrow.

current DCCD total:
$166.50

breaking it down, that's $134.50 in trust while the remaining $32 is carried for candy-running or providing customers with change.

what's our goal with this thing, anyway? $150? $200? $300? and i need more sales reps, too.

battle of the bands, et cetera [21 Apr 2003|08:02pm]

pinkerdot
so i assume our opportunity is passed for the nhs battle of the bands since we pretty much blew off spring break. but even though leadership postponed it 'til next week, cameron and i already signed on to really focus on fair dinkum (with janina) this week... besides, no one else in defrost is really showing interest  anyone want in on fair dinkum who is fairly serious? we could use vocals and a rhythm guitarist (or a bassist, since i could switch to rhygui pretty easily).

so, um, support defrost members by checking out fair dinkum, because i think we're really going to have our shit together. i was thinking about maybe defrost working towards a mid-summer gig, or even something as early as the end of the year, but with a more realistic time-sensitive goal in mind maybe we'll do more than sit on our asses...

and in other defrost news, we're still going to do the candy sale i guess. i'll go after school on wednesday, pick up some more stash, and then get to selling. i will count the money up sometime today, in a fit of insomnia that i feel coming on. i'll present you guys with totals sometime soon, then.

and in the meantine...

post your financial concerns! where does the money need to go? post what YOU think we need (from dire to indulgent), and then sometime we'll assess all the priorities again.

canada: where marmosets can attack me! [27 Mar 2003|11:10pm]

[ mood | _ pro ]

here's the deal with battle of the bands, with which we are involved.

  • april 21-25 (the week after spring break)

  • two bands a day, five days, at lunch in mpr

  • bands get 8 minutes performing time -- original songs only!

  • we may be able to borrow mike's bass and the drum set from jon esquivel's band

  • basic PA/mic system will be provided by leadership

  • judges: williams, anderson, talley, bagdasarian, two students, two admin

  • criteria: crowd reaction, stage presence, originality, quality within genre

  • winners (top 3) play junefest</i>

overall, from what i can judge in that meeting, we will probably be most original. we need to take advantage of the next few weekends or early-out weekdays and as much of spring break as we can to totally rework "lukewarm" (which cam, dyl and i all agreed we would like to play) and possibly write a second song.

we needlots of feedback.

btw, the DCCD: we've got about $120 put away, with about $20 surplus for anticipating another candy run or helping out the "change-for-a-____" people.

CDDC update du noir: sales are dropping due to no-candy-for-lent and those bastardous football players with their fundraiser. the selection is mostly fruity candy, says sheryl, despite the misleading brown box. either way, i went and picked up about $24 in chocolate deliciousness (another mix and some reeses). too annoyed with money to calculate any numbers for you.

when candy gets to be an old market, maybe we can figure out some other stuff. any ideas, besides the LP? how about getting stickers or buttons made? i know we have a cafepress thing for that going on, but that kind of merch is easier to sell upfront. i can also make flyers with my mom's copy machine at work to advertise the site, just for kicks. maybe we should set up a paypal donation button thing there...

custom sticker and/or button resources for comparison shopping:
sticker guy!; websticker; stickers exchange (looks like sticker sex change!); lo-fi merch; busy beaver; one little monkey (they did syl's dale-is-a-hemo buttons).

also, bad news -- mike revoked his bass offer because the guy who was offering him his bass revoked his offer. bastard! we really should assemble sometime to discuss other fundraising ideas as well as what needs to be purchased. we're signed up to do battle of the bands so keep that in mind when we discuss priority.

so... any thoughts?

[ mood | optimistic ]

hello again, 'tis your humble quasi-bassist and vp of candy sales with the latest report on our DCCD.

we had disappointing sales on friday, so we had lots leftover and therefore did not require an over-the-weekend candy run. but today we sold out of lots of favourites, so i dragged on over to le S&F and picked up $38.62 in choice material (and i also got my own smart advantage card!) so here's the inventory

_ - more of the chocolate varieties (one of each kind)
_ - another box of 40 winterfresh, which should last us another two weeks or so
_ - a fruity pack that includes starburst (3 different kinds) and skittles (4 kinds)

we still have leftover reese's and starburst from last week's stock.

now about pricing the skittles. if we sell both starburst and skittles at 75 cents, we're looking at $11.50 fruitbox-profit. sierra mentioned that a uniform price would be most convenient, ie. selling everything but the gum for 75 cents. so long as the "customers" don't feel badly ripped off by our price (because i don't know how much they are at el student store), 75 cents is sound to me.

the figures are getting more and more annoying to post. so just know that i have $67 put away in rolls and bills, and will be carrying about $13 with me tomorrow in cash and coin.

EVERYONE! i am calling a meeting together for sometime this weekend.
we have to get all our money and candy together, then count-roll-divide-decide. any and all information regarding inventory, sales tips, spending priority (bring a copy of musician's friend if you have one), et cetera, must be brought with. location is likely the little house, and i'm thinking saturday afternoon or so. leave comments accordingly.

Notice to fans of the Scrub the Baby Down video:

The video will temporarily be unviewable for a short time. I am currently making and dealing with an updated (corrected) version, which will include a working loading progress bar. (Hopefully.)

Do you think we could get away with selling copies of the Lukewarm EP? If so, how much should they be sold for?

Plans [07 Mar 2003|02:15am]

Let's not stop at $150, now.

Let's say the amount of candy inventory we need to last a week costs $100. (Even though I know it's much higher.) Then every week we should buy $100 of candy, and shelve the rest of the cash in a specific collective place. That way, we will have enough candy to last us to next Saturday, and we will have a better idea of how much room we have for non-candy DEFROST purchases.

I think audio equipment (at least 2 mics and an audioboard, plus all hookups) should be bought first. We can manage with only guitar, vocals, and a drum machine until then.

Then, I think we can go with either a bass guitar or a new bass pedal from the real-life drum set. This is a choice of which you can't stand most: Having no bass melody or having no bass rhythm [the drum machine has loud treble.]) But also, the drum pedal is $20, where the bass and amp is $200, if we're lucky. That, and if we use a drum machine to record, we need an extra amp and extra hookups, and we've used up two more power outlets. But I guess that's just my humble drumming opinion...

anyways, more about the DEFROST Covert Candy Sale.

because we were low on the chocolate merchandise, sales were very, very slow today. brought $53.56 away from school today (a lot of it still a remainder from yesterday's sales), and went shopping again. i got both kinds of chocolate mixes and a box of reese's.

right now, i'm toting $67.99. once we sell all the candy we have on us (all the just-bought stuff plus the stuff sierra and i still have), we're looking at around$150.

my head hurts and i'm going to eat all this chocolate.

Hey guys, you humble rythme guitarist here, I just wanted to remind everyone about the other aspect of being a band, writing (and eventually perfroming) songs. I'd like to start actually having practices(whether or not we have equipment)so we can practice new, and old songs... so one day we can prefrom and add that moeny to our revenue

two days into the week and we're still going strong, despite a slight decrease in sales between yesterday and today. our capital came to a very impressive sum by the end of today! keep in mind that this is yesterday's $11.20 added to the combined sales of cameron, sierra, and myself (still haven't gotten cole's money)...

$70.84

* * CANDY PURCHASE RUN #4 - -
i went to the s&f today again, and spent $28.39 of the above total on the following:

     - one more chocolate assortment (reeses pbcs, snickers, snickers crunchers, twix, milky ways, and 3 musketeers)
     - another pack of 40 winterfresh fivesticks
     - a box of 30 original-flavour starburst packs

the starbursts, as you note, are the newest addition to our assortment. we've decided on 75 cents per pack. we'll see how far they take us. also, about the jolly ranchers ... we are taking the price down to 25 cents to see if they move themselves any better. at that rate, they're still about 10 cents profit apiece.

do the math: dottie is now carrying $42.45</b> in defrost money (and smartly leaving some at home).

i am going to call for a friday conference after school between all the salesmen and adam. we can pool our money, roll coins, and discuss our findings and feelings. thoughts?

candy sales VP here with the latest!

our first run was a great success, and we got some decent feedback for the next candy purchase. we came to a little over $40 (some money not accounted for, oddly).

with that money, we (adam, sierra and myself) picked out more candy on sunday (adam has the receipt with the exact figures of expenditure). we added the following items to our inventory:

      - winterfresh gum (5 sticks, 25 cents/pack)
      - hershey's plain milk chocolate bars
      - hershey's chocolate bars with almonds
      - reese sticks
      - jolly rancher stix (watermelon & fruit punch, 50 cents apiece)
      - kit-kat

we also added cole and sierra to the list of salesfolk. the simplest candies sold, but as fast as their choco-chewy-crunchy-cookie counterparts. reeses and twix are still the fastest movers, but i'm sure if given the chance reese sticks and kit-kats can do very well also. cameron noted some flak from customers about the jolly ranchers, but they are still selling. in fact, i sold over half of my supply. they sell slow, i know, but they sell nonetheless and we superbank on them.

all in all, we sold VERY well in one day's time. cameron and i combined our money to reach a total of $47.93! considering this is without sierra or cole's money, we are making impressive sales.

* *         but wait, there's more!

today i went on candy purchase run #3 and spent $36.73 on 36-unit boxes of reeses and twix (one box each), and another variety pack (the ones with the hersheys, kit-kats, and reese stix). so we are well-supplied with the top sellers, and maybe i'll need to do the fourth purchase after school tomorrow. maybe i'll pick up a pack of kit-kats on the next run.

so, currently i am towing $11.20 in DEFROST money.

other notes:
    - keep track of disapproving teachers, sales hotbeds, and close-calls.
    - i saved $1.40 by picking sales items and using my dad's s&f card. maybe we should consider investing in a card of our own, adam.

that's that for now, kiddos. over and out!
